Fascination with the Zombies

Among the fascinations related to media and technology, the zombie apocalypse has become a worldwide phenomenon due to its incredible ability to grab people’s attention.  Horrifying, fictional characters such as vampires, werewolves, and ghosts have intrigued people over the years but once the idea of the zombie arrived, it became an instant hit. Zombies continue to win over audiences because of their humanly characteristics. Sure, other fictional characters portray humanly characteristics, but the zombies continue to win over the audience due to their constant ability to fascinate all ages. Because of the rise of the zombie apocalypse, film industries all over the world have incorporated zombies into the movies making them victorious among other horrors.
Beginning with the 1968 film, Night of the Living Dead, the story of the flesh eating, disastrous zombie entered the world of entertainment. People were intrigued by the fact that dead human beings completely dominated the world by chasing and eating living human brains.  Technology has allowed filmmakers to create the most terrifying zombies, making them look beyond real and extremely appealing to audiences.
After the first zombie films were exposed, a worldwide fascination exploded into a huge phenomenon. Looking at the films made within the twenty-first century, such as 28 Weeks Later and I Am Legend, the zombies are infected with diseases and chase after humans who act as the heroes. Technology plays a massive role in the appearance of the zombie because of new graphic designs that look incredibly real.  Also, there is a plethora of story lines filmmakers can create that include zombies destroying the human race. They are flesh eating, bloody, disastrous characters that never cease to entertain audiences. Humans get extremely excited to watch movies that include zombies because it is different from the typical horror films made. "Zombie movies tap into our apocalyptic fears and anxieties very effectively, they de-romanticize the connections between human beings and reduce humanity to its lowest common denominator, focusing on power relations in their most brutal human form” (Dendle).
Personally, the uprising of the zombie apocalypse has fascinated me. Although, the thought of the zombie tickles me, I do enjoy watching films that include them. I Am Legend is one of my favorite movies and I do enjoy playing video games where the main point is to destroy all of the zombies around. I do not know what it is but something about the zombies is very appealing and entertaining to people all over the world.
